2023 ThredUp Athleta Partner Kit Updated Review & it’s not good news

Dear Adventure Avenue,

I have done three ThredUP reviews already. The first one I did was a GAP Partner Kit where I was paid for everything upfront. The second one I did was an Athleta Partner Kit where again I was paid upfront for everything. The last one I wrote about was the Consignment kit for cash/ThredUP credit which took a long time, but I still made good money.

My most recent experience at ThredUP was with an Athleta Partner Kit. First off, everything is now completely consignment based. One of the things I liked about ThredUP was that I was paid upfront with a giftcard, but now that is not the case.

What I sent in

What they accepted

Here’s what they accepted:

(The listed payout is not what I actually received)

Then I had to wait for things to start selling. As items began to reach their “expiration date” (I put expiration date in quotes because ThredUP resets your item after it passes your payout window, so they can still get paid for it, but you don’t). Something to also note is there are two different payout windows: one for 30 days and one for 45 days which is for higher value items.

I sold most of the accepted items by dropping the price a couple days before they expired.

Then, one day when I went on to drop the price on my 45-day items, I noticed they were just gone! Upon further research on their website, I saw that it said these items had expired – except I knew they hadn’t reached their expiration date.

So I contacted ThredUP customer service, and they got back to me within three days and reinstated those items for another 45 days which I appreciated. Those items did end up selling too, so I was happy they were reinstated.

Then I went to check the status of those items on my app, and the entire transaction was gone! It appeared to be deleted from my ThredUP account. I hadn’t received an email that my order was finished or received my giftcard, so I emailed ThredUP customer service again.

They were still able to see my account on their end and sent me this screenshot:

Last week I was finally paid out. I received two Athleta gift cards: One for $1.00 and one for $10.91.

Would I do it again?

It was a lot of back-and-forth for $11.91, so I’m not sure. I’d only do it if I was trying to get rid of clothes that would otherwise just go to Goodwill, but often, those aren’t clothes that ThredUP will accept.

Let me know if you’ve tried it out as well and what your experience was. Maybe this kit was a one-off.

If after all I’ve said, you’re still interested in ThredUp, you can sign up through my link and we’ll each get $10 to spend on their website.

Until next time,

A
