Dear Adventure Avenues,
In the pursuit of lost skills and arts on what some may say is an antiquated adventure, I find myself thinking of the simple things in life. As I type this, I’ve spent the last hour of babysitting gazing out the window at a thunderstorm, intimidated by the enormity of its power but awed by the way its simplistic nature entertained my eyes and spirit for the breadth of the storm.
After a particularly long crash of thunder, the dog came to see me. I’m not sure if she thought I was frightened or if she herself was. Regardless, I sat on the floor and began to pet her, the neolithic bond of man and canine emerging as she came closer, resting her head under my chin.
We sat in near silence, save the pitter patter of raindrops on the roof. The storm had quieted to the lull of rain that I find so soothing.
It’s moments like this that I want to recognize. They’re not particularly memorable but the feeling in the moment is one of peace and contentment.
These small moments, whether they be the calming fall of rain, the complexity of a storm, or a connection with another living being, show how it’s the simple things in life that matter.
Sincerely,
A
