Dear Adventure Avenue,
Last week, my family and I went to Balboa Island, California to walk around the island and get some fresh sea air.
After driving down a few streets, we were able to find a parking space that was easy to slip into- no major parallel parking necessary. We walked towards the sand and the path. It was a beautiful day!
When we got to the path, we saw this sand sculpture:
Most people were practicing good social distancing. There were signs that alerted us to the proper practices. They also showed us that you can only go one way around the bay.
As we walked past the Balboa Car Ferry, I caught a glimpse of a strawberry stand. We usually walk around Balboa in the winter, and this stand is never open when we go then. My dad has been wanting the chocolate dipped strawberries from this very stand for the past six years, but it has never been open when we were there.
Balboa Island Berries
I quickly pointed out that it was open, and we promptly stopped and ordered 3 chocolate covered strawberries from Balboa Island Berries. My oh my! They were delicious, and so fresh with so much rich chocolate!
We ate our delicious strawberries as we kept walking.
It’s always cool to see all the statues and artwork that the houses have in their yards and on their docks. At Christmas time they are always decorated- some even win awards!
I spy a lama (or is it an alpaca? I’m not entirely sure)
The rich chocolate made us thirsty, so we decided to stop at the car to grab our waters. There was a slight problem though. We couldn’t remember where we parked the car! All the streets more or less look the same.
After going down a couple of streets, we found the car! It was a good reminder that we should always look to see what street we parked on.
My brother wanted ice cream, so we went back on the path and walked to the main street.
We usually all get a Balboa bar or a frozen banana at Dad’s Original, but we were filled up from our giant strawberries. My brother got his ice cream here and he enjoyed it.
After my brother got his ice cream, we stopped at the restroom by the fire station before heading home.
Signing off,
A
