A Day at Disneyland 2020 Part 1

February 28, 2020

Dear Adventure Avenue,

With the current world situation that is Covid-19, I thought I might try to remember some happy memories from this year. I went to Disneyland with my dad before it closed. Here’s hoping to spark some Disney magic.

We drove to the park early because we knew we wanted to get a boarding pass for Rise of the Resistance. When we arrived at the Mickey and Friends Parking structure at around 6:30, there was a pretty long line. So we waited.

Then we parked and went through security which had surprisingly no line. But there was line for the tram. I was getting nervous that we weren’t going to even get in the park before it opened at 8 to get our boarding pass. It seemed like the tram was never going to come.

But, after what seemed like forever, around 7:05 we got our tram that took us into Downtown Disney.

The line to come into the park was long (of course, but the wait is worth it to get into the most magical place on Earth). We got into the park by 7:30.

We decided that we would divide and conquer our tasks. I would be in charge of securing a boarding pass for Rise of the Resistance and my dad would be in charge of obtaining Fast Passes for Space Mountain.

They lowered the ropes about 5 minutes early. The crowd started fast walking to their various destinations. I stopped at the low wall outside of Star Tours and my dad went to get the Fastpasses.

There was a moment of distress (on my end). I was attempting to get the Rise of the Resistance Boarding Pass when it said that there were no more Boarding Passes available! I was so disappointed. We had gotten up early to get to the park before it opened to get to ride Rise of the Resistance again.

But then I thought, “Maybe I should try one more time… It has to have been a mistake… Right?”

Thank goodness I did because this time it worked and we got Boarding Group 78. The guarantee boarding number is 72, so we weren’t guaranteed to go on, but we figured we were close enough to the number that we would get to go on, especially because the park closed at midnight.

My dad had also secured the Space Mountain Fastpasses. They weren’t going to be ready for us to use until 10 so we went on Autopia first. I should say we walked on to Autopia because there was no line at all. That was a nice first for the day.

After Autopia, we headed over to wait in line for the Matterhorn. We messed up a little bit here because we should have done the single rider line but instead we waited in the 25 minute standby line.

After the Matterhorn, we went on Star Tours. We were happy to have a different (not Rise of Skywalker) storyline after the repetitious nature of the stories we had experienced in Disney World.

The Buzz Lightyear ride was next to do before we went on Space Mountain. I reached level 4 in points. The trick is to shoot the diamond and triangle targets. There are even more points to be earned if you hit them when they are glowing.

Our Space Mountain Fastpass was ready. We scanned our tickets with our Fastpass on it. Not even five minutes later, we hear over the loud speaker that the ride has been temporarily closed down. We decided to wait because at least we were still in the Fastpass line.

The ride opened up fairly quickly- ten minutes tops- and we were able to ride Space Mountain.

We had a park hopper so we decided to head over to Disney’s California Adventure in order to Fastpass Toy Story Mania and check out some rides over there.

Stay Tuned,

A
