Dear Adventure Avenues,
With it being so hot this summer, my family and I decided to go to the beach. I hadn’t been to the beach since last summer in Hawaii. We left to go to Newport Beach in the morning. We knew we weren’t going to have a full beach day – just enough time to get some fresh air and have a little fun in the sun.
When we got there, we were a little worried we weren’t going to be able to find parking because there seemed to be a lot of cars.
But we got lucky! Someone was leaving as we were driving in. The best part was that the spot was right next to the sand! The closest you could park! (Parking cost $5 for two hours.)
We scouted out a spot that was socially distanced from other people. It was interesting because we noticed how on the beach people looked closer together than they actually were. But we could see that people really did socially distance themselves.
It was still a little overcast so my brother, dad, and I dug in the sand. My dad and I like to sculpt things. (Or I should say attempt to).
I made Ahsoka Tano from Clone Wars. Unfortunately, my sand creation was destroyed before I had a chance to take a picture of it. My dad attempted to make the Millennium Falcon, but I think it turned out more like a dinosaur’s foot. What do you see?
We saw a dolphin’s fin swimming close to shore, as well as the dolphin blowing out his blowhole.
Once it heated up a bit, I went in the water and boogie boarded. The waves were huge, but I was able to catch some decent sized ones. My dad came out and joined me, but my mom and brother remained on dry land.
The life guard boat had to come to tell the surfers to get out of the water. Surfers are black balled at 10:30 and it was about 11:30 when they had to bring the boat out.
Our parking meter was almost out, so we packed up our beach chairs, sand toys, and boogie boards
It was a fun morning! I loved getting to be in the water!
Sincerely,
A
