Houston we have a problem – Diverted Flight 2025 – DFW > IAH

Dear Adventure Avenue,

Early in 2025, I had a crazy flight experience on a work trip to the Dallas area. I was enjoying a smooth flight to DFW and we’d begun our decent, when we flew back up to cruising altitude.

Then we attempted to land again, and this time when we flew back up, we went full speed ahead.

The captain came on the speaker and said, “Well folks, we will not be landing in Dallas today. We are heading to Houston.”

We landed in Houston and were told that there was not enough staff to deplane us. They also said we *might* be able to take off back to Dallas.

It turns out there was a ground stop due to wind in the Dallas area, so I figured the odds of getting back to Dallas were slim. I went ahead and booked a rental car in Houston, just in case I could get deplane and drive to Dallas.

Then all of a sudden, they came on the loudspeaker and said, “We have a van. There are stairs pulled up to the plane. Once you deplane, you cannot get back on.”

I grabbed my carry on and backpack and headed to the van.

They drove us through the tarmac and keyed us into some secured areas before dropping us off in baggage claim.

I picked up my rental car and started driving!

I made a pitstop at Starbucks to grab food before starting the long drive up to Dallas.

And yes, that was a FOUR HOUR drive!

I did make another pitstop at the best Texas road stop: Buc-ees!

I got a brisket sandwich that I enjoyed at my hotel, the Duncanville Hampton Inn.

At the end of the day, I’m glad I made it to my hotel safe.

Until next time,

A
