My Reading Recap for 2024

Dear Adventure Avenue,

This year I read or listened to 51 books. I really enjoyed using Libby and downloading books on my kindle to read while traveling. I thought it be fun to reflect on some of my favorites and declare which were my favorites. At the end of this post will be my 2024 book list.

Favorite Fantasy: Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros

Fourth Wing and Iron Flame showed me that I actually really like the fantasy genre. I am so exciting for the upcoming release of Onyx Storm on January 21! (I’ve had it pre-ordered since March 2024!) This book series is Hunger Games, Divergent, and How to Train Your Dragon all wrapped into one.

Favorite Non-Fiction: Whiskey in a Teacup by Reese Witherspoon

If you had told me that my favorite non-fiction read would’ve been by Reese Witherspoon, I probably would have thought you were lying. I expected it to be a farming book, but this book had stuck with me since having read it. The tips about hospitality really make you think what to do as both a guest and as a host.

Favorite Finance: I Will Teach You to Be Rich by Ramit Sethi

I wanted my favorite finance book to be Girls that Invest by Simran Kaur, but I didn’t find it to have any actionable steps. Sethi’s book on the other hand gives great step by step advice about how to get your finances in order.

Favorite Mystery/Thriller: Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult

A Good Girls Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson to murder was an honorable mention in this category, but if you haven’t read Leaving Time, it is so good! A short synopsis from the author’s website is linked here.

Favorite Romance: Business or Pleasure by Rachel Lynn Solomon

I like reading books where the main character is an author, which is the case in this book. The characters are also nerdy which for me was relatable and enjoyable to read. This is not a closed-door romance, which becomes apparent very quickly, so reader discretion is advised. 😉

Favorite Closed-door Romance: Summer Romance by Annabel Monaghan

I loved Annabel Monaghan’s Nora Goes Off Script, and this book Summer Romance brought the same feelings as her debut novel. It was a sweet read about a recently divorced woman finding new love.

All Time Favorite for the year: Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros

This book had me staying up late to find out what happened next. I would laugh out loud at my favorite dragons (Tairn and Andarna). I have also tried (unfortunately, unsuccessfully) to get tickets to see the author of this series for the new book’s launch as I have become so invested in this story and the world Rebecca Yarros has built. I can’t wait to return to this world when Onyx Storm comes out!
