Paris January 2024: Tuileries, Galignani Bookstore, Angelina’s + Monoprix

Day 6 January 3, 2024

Dear Adventure Avenue,

I woke up and met Dad upstairs for breakfast. My brother, mom, and Mere soon joined us. We gazed out on the Eiffel Tour for the last morning as we ate.

My brother, dad, mom, and I then took the Metro to the Louvre. We didn’t have tickets for the Louvre (in fact they were sold out when I checked), but we got to at least see the pyramid and the Tuileries jardin.

There was a Christmas market/fair going on, so we cut out of the park through there and went to a bookstore, conveniently located next to Angelina’s.

While my mom and Dad got hot chocolate and other sweets, my brother and I explored the bookstore, Librairie Galignani.

I was looking for Maurice Leblanc books (author of the Arsène Lupin mysteries that inspired the Netflix series) and Marcel Pagnol (generally an easier to read French author). I asked (in french) about them and the lady took me to them. I bought 3 Lupin books and the only Marcel Pagnol they had.

I just had a sip of the chocolate because it’s so rich.

We then walked to Place du Concord and saw the pillar there.

There was a parkour set up in the square, but they’d sort of ruined the courtyard by pouring asphalt over their gorgeous cobblestone courtyard.

After taking pictures in the square, we decided to walk to the Princess Diana Memorial. The walk was along the Seine. I had just finished watching the Crown so her death was fresh in my mind.

We paid our respects and started walking towards the Victor Hugo metro stop because of the sandwich stop that’s in the circle.

I ordered our sandwiches from the rather rude lady (there was a much nicer lady that I’d talked to previously), but successfully got all 5 of our sandwiches – including the 3 she had to ask the back to make.

We started walking back to the hotel when it started raining on us. It wasn’t for very long luckily.

We ate our sandwiches back up in the lounge with Mere. I had a ginger ale and tried their special drinks (a honey cinnamon clove and raspberry iced tea).

Mom and I then walked to a Monoprix 15 minutes away to buy chocolate to bring home.

Once back at the hotel, we went back to the lounge and played cards. We talked to a member of the staff, Alix who was very nice.  Mere joined us and the 5 of us played a few more hands of cards before we went down to pack.

We finished packing and went back up to the lounge and had our before dinner snacks and drinks. Then we walked to our dinner restaurant, La Maison, about 10 minutes away.

I had ratatouille and split escargot with Mere. Mere also had ratatouille. My brother and mom split the prime rib, and my dad got the lamb. For dessert, my mom and I had pistachio ice cream and my brother had chocolate mousse. It was pretty good, and the staff was nice there.

We walked back to the hotel and went up to the lounge for one last drink (tea for me!) before heading to bed.

The next morning, we took a cab to the airport. The only issue we had on the way home was the fact that we were all in premium economy, so we didn’t all have access to the lounge because it’s an Extime lounge and not an American Airlines lounge which we can all go to thanks to having the Executive Platinum credit card without having executive platinum status. My mom is Executive Platinum, so she could get herself and one other person into the lounge.

After my brother saw there was no food that he’d like in the lounge, he and my dad went and found food elsewhere, while my mom and I enjoyed the food in the lounge.

My parents ended up getting upgraded to business class at the gate, so my brother and I were in premium economy together.

We landed in Dallas and had to go immediately to the gate because our connection was so short, which was unfortunate as the rest of my family had been upgraded to First Class and could have gone into the fanciest lounge there.

We made it safely back to John Wayne airport, and my mom was able to smuggle green beans to me when they were served their meal.

Until next time,

A
