Day 5
Dear Adventure Avenue,
After an early morning yesterday, we got up a bit later today. We went down and had our usual hotel breakfast. I had my veggie omelet and hot tea, my dad had a meat omelet, my mom had the buffet, and my brother had pancakes.
We went back to the room for a spell before heading out to some bakeries. The bakeries here aren’t as good as the ones in France. We went to a couple looking for sandwiches and finally settled on some from Caffè Olivieri which was very close to our hotel.
We wanted to pick up some sandwiches before we left for our Pantheon tour at 2.
We ate our sandwiches (a caprese sandwich for my mom and I and a ham and cheese roll sandwich for my dad and brother).
Then we walked to the Trevi Fountain which was a 20 minute walk from our hotel.
I didn’t find the walk there very enjoyable as since it’s such a popular tourist attraction, there are SO many of those people trying to force you to buy stuff from you or people just begging, or I’m sure pickpockets.
We got our pictures at the fountain and then continued to the Patheon where we had our tour.
It wasn’t quite time for our tour, so we got gelato!
I booked our tour through Viator and it was a 45 minute tour and another great one! The Pantheon is an incredible example of Roman architecture and the artist Raffael is buried there.
After the tour, we took two taxis back to the hotel (as there wasn’t one big enough to accommodate 6 people).
Back at the hotel, we rested for a bit. Then my mom, brother and I went to get hot chocolate at Caffè Olivieri. It was very rich, made with cream and cocoa powder. I could only drink half of my large.
After drinking our hot chocolate in the room, we started walking to dinner at Don Pasquale located near the Trevi Fountain.
On our way there, we stopped at a shop and started trying olive oils, limoncellos, truffle, cheese, and balsamics. I even tried a melon limoncello. We got a pretty good haul and are excited to bring a bit of Italy back with us.
Then we proceeded to dinner.
At first our service at the restaurant was really good; they took our coats and were very attentive but as the night went on it got worse and worse. I think my food was the best which was a pasta in Normandie butter and parmesan cheese with 1 gram of truffle grated on top. My dad said his lamb chop was better than Alfredo’s because it was moister and there was more of it. My mom wasn’t satisfied with her avocado toast which didn’t have very much avocado. The caesar salad that my mom and dad split was good according to them. My brother thought his burger was just okay.
After our dinner, we took a taxi back to the hotel and went to sleep.
Until tomorrow,
A
