This will be part of a Throwback Thursday series from when my family and I went to Boston and Salem between June 27, 2018 and July 3, 2018. As it is a trip from before I created my blog, there will most likely be less pictures than usual on some days. Nevertheless, I think Boston and Salem are both places full of adventures, and I’d like to share mine with you. Enjoy! 🙂
Day 2 June 28, 2018
Dear Adventure Avenue,
Well! During the night I was deep in sleep, when suddenly there was a noise from the fire alarm. Not a chirping noise to say that the batteries need to be changed, but full on alarm! The whole floor had to evacuate!
Luckily it turns out there was no actual fire. (Probably just someone in one of the rooms with a kitchen set it off or something).
Although the disturbance was annoying to say the least, we did get to see what our particular little street of Boston looked like in the middle of the night with rain dampening the street.
In the morning, we walked over to tour Fenway Park. Our hotel (Residence Inn by Marriot Fenway Park) was very conveniently located near the Boston Red Sox park. Luckily we brought our rain ponchos because it decided to rain some more while we were on the tour. We saved ourselves from getting totally soaked.
The tour was great! It was fascinating to learn about what the different owners did (or didn’t) do for the team. We also heard about the Curse of the Bambino which has to do with Boston selling Babe Ruth to the Yankees, and resulted in Boston having many, many years of not winning the World Series.
After the tour, we went to lunch at a place called Sal’s Pizza. Their pizza slices were like 2 slices of normal pizza, and quite good. I would definitely recommend it! I had pineapple and ham, my brother had cheese, my mom had pepperoni, and my dad had a hamburger pizza.
Then we went back to the hotel for a little bit before deciding to take the T (Boston’s subway) to the Boston Common Visitor’s Center to get some maps and programs for Boston and Salem.
We had a bit of difficulty finding the Fenway T station. There was some construction that made it harder (okay and maybe our Google maps skills were not the greatest).
After walking through the Common park, we went to the Massachusetts State House. We took a self guided tour. We received a handout to look at as we toured. It was interesting, but not necessarily worth spending too much time at. Although if we were from Massachusetts, I think we would have enjoyed it more.
We continued on the Freedom Trail and walked right past the Park Street Church and into the Granary Burying Ground. There we saw the graces of Ben Franklin’s parents. We also saw John Hannock’s grave. It was kinda sad because so many graves didn’t have names on them anymore. The elements had certainly taken a toll on the gravestones.
We went back on the very crowded T to have dinner closer to the hotel. We went to Bennett’s sandwiches. And oh my goodness! We had the most AH-MAZING lobster rolls. They were a bit on the expensive side ($20 each) but they were worth every penny. The bread was light and warm. The lobster was perfect.
After our rolls we went to Neighborhoods Coffee and Crepes for dessert. I had Sweet Simplicity, a nutella and banana filled crepe, and it was good. My brother got a cinnamon sugar crepe and it was really good!
We then went to watch the Boston versus Angels game at Fenway Park. It was a good game- lots of good plays. The Boston Red Sox won 6-2.
After the game, my mom and I walked to Target to pick up some toothpaste and Power-Aid for my brother. Then we went back to the room and went to sleep.
Signing off, until tomorrow,
A
