Adventure to France 2023 – Day 7: From Avignon to Paris

March 31, 2023

Dear Adventure Avenue,

We had a leisurely morning at the hotel. We ate the chocolate croissants that I’d gotten yesterday at Marie Blanchère and made some tea in the hotel. It’s so nice to have a hot water pot so your tea doesn’t taste like coffee.

We packed up all our stuff and took a taxi to the Avignon TGV train station to wait for our train to Paris!

We ate in the Eric Kayser Boulangerie. I had a delicious ham, cheese, and butter baguette and Mere had a spinach quiche.

Then we boarded our train to Paris! It was nice to not worry about making a connection because the TGV was straight there.

When we arrived in Paris, we took a taxi to our hotel, Hotel des 2 Continents. To get to our room without taking a flight of stairs, you had to take the elevator to floor 1 (despite our room number being 210) and then cross an outdoor bridge, go down two steps and then you made it to the room.

We had a small room with two twin beds squished together.

The shower oddly did not have a curtain, so it was a delicate dance to wash oneself without spraying and soaking the entire bathroom.

I liked this dresser

Once we put our luggage in the room, we walked to the Saint Germain des Prés church. It was a wonderful experience inside the church because an orchestra chorus group was practicing in the middle serenading us as we walked around admiring the painted restoration of the church.

Then we went to the cafe across the street called Deux Magots for a snack and refreshment.

I had fries and a perrier.

Then we went next door to Cafe Flora for dinner and the service was terrible! Our waiter basically ignored us the entire time. I didn’t have water for half my meal – in fact, two (Non-French) women came in and were served their water first. We both had tomato and mozzarella for dinner which was just okay.

We were going to get dessert at Cafe Flora but after the abysmal service, we went back to the Deux Magots.

We grabbed a table and then I walked quickly over to Paul which is a boulangerie chain to get us a little breakfast for the next day. I got myself a pain au chocolat and Mere a palmier. Then I headed back over to Deux Magots and was quite proud of myself because I made it back without using any maps!

At the cafe, I had a taster plate which came with tea and I got to try pretty much everything on the dessert menu and got the chamomile tea that I wanted with it.

We met an American couple, one of which was a producer for NBS who we chatted with.

After we finished, we headed back to the hotel and went to bed.

Until tomorrow,

A
