Day 7
June 28, 2019
Dear Adventure Avenue,
We woke up at 6:30, grabbed a quick bite to eat at the buffet (I had a really moist (and delicious) double chocolate muffin), and then were picked up for our tour.
We went to Valensole first. It was an hour and a half drive, but we got to see the lavender fields in bloom. They were incredible. The lavender scent filled the air, and the fields went on and on as if they never ended.
We stopped in the village but it was hot and we still had so much more to see, so we quickly left to visit a little lavender, almond, and olive farm. I tried lavender syrup which tasted like liquid lavender. In addition to that we tried olive oils and almonds from there. Outside the shop there was ice cream. I tried the lavender sorbet which tasted really good. It was light, fresh, and tasted like lavender. The lavender honey ice cream tasted more like honey than lavender but it was still good.
We then drove another hour and a half to Avignon. We ate lunch across the street from the tourist center at Brasserie du Theatre. I had a Caesar salad which tasted really good in the record breaking heat.
We went to the Pope’s Palace or Palais des Papes. It was my favorite thing on the trip. It was an interactive experience. They gave us tablets and headphones. The tablets have a map of the castle and lead guests along the path. In different areas there was a “time travel” QR code that could be scanned and the room was transformed back hundreds of years. It was amazing to see a 360 view of the various room in their prime.
After the palace we went to the medieval bridge in Avignon, but it was so hot that we didn’t listen to the audio. Then we went back to the hotel and ate dinner at the restaurant our driver recommended called Piazza. Their pizza was amazing. If we had known about it the night before, we would’ve eaten there sooner.
Then we went back to the hotel and packed our bags because we’re leaving the hotel at 4 am tomorrow!
Until we meet again,
A from La Seyne Sur Mer
