England 2023: Richmond – Ted Lasso Pub & Ham House Day 3

June 6, 2023

Dear Adventure Avenue,

We ate our hotel buffet breakfast in the morning and then took an Uber to Ham House in Richmond. We met my aunt in front of the house only to find out the house didn’t open until 12 unlike 10 as we originally thought.

We then decided to go on a walk throughout Richmond. We went to a park where you can see deer and we did!

There was also a lookout point called Henry’s mound and from here you had a panoramic view and could make out Saint peter’s chapel using a telescope. On a clear Day, you could see Windsor from the other direction.

On our way to lunch, we passed by the Ted Lasso pub.

Lunch

We ate lunch at White Swan, a place my aunt likes. It has a very nice garden to eat lunch in.

I had the homemade beef burger on a sourdough bun and it was good!

We then started walking to Ham House and got a little lost, but on the way, we saw a horse!

Ham House and Gardens

After lunch it was time to go to the manor house. It was very well preserved and I liked how you could see upstairs and downstairs (servants).

The lady in the house kicked her husband out of his room after she installed a bathroom in the bottom floor because her husband’s room had an access door down to the basement to the bathroom.

The gardens here were also absolutely beautiful. There were several. I really liked the kitchen garden where they grow organic produce. The back gardens were set out in a geometric design of lines. Next to the house on one side was a lavender field and on the other was an herb garden/open field. Directly behind the house were fields of wild grasses and flowers meant to bring in native wildlife and help the bees.

Dinner at the Ted Lasso Pub

After Ham House, we decided to get something to drink at the pub where Ted Lasso was filmed (though only season 1 according to the bartender), The Prince’s Head. I tried a black current cordial in soda and enjoyed it. It was like a less artificial tasting Shirley temple.

We ended up ordering food here before heading back to the hotel. Everyone but my aunt (the gnocchi) and brother (pasta) had fish and chips. We had a lot of laughs and a fun day and evening in Richmond.

We then Ubered back to the hotel and got ready for bed. It was a fun day!

Until tomorrow,

A
