Oahu Hawaiian Vacation 2021 Day 2 – A Daily Log

June 30, 2021

Dear Adventure Avenue,

For our first breakfast in Oahu, we went to the neighboring hotel, the Ilikai. I should note that the lines for food at the Ilikai were much shorter than the lines (and waits) on the Hilton Property. We waited in a 15 minute line at 7am to get some açaí bowls at the Hawaiian Aroma Caffe. I got the (delicious) original açaí bowl and my mom got the tropical açaí bowl. My brother got bacon and a croissant and my dad got a breakfast sandwich. The açaí bowls were so GOOD!

After we got our açaí bowls, we went back to our hotel room to eat them before getting ready for our hike.

The Tropical Bowl

Manoa Falls

The hike, Manoa Falls, was a short way away from our hotel. We waited in a short line to get into the parking lot where we then parked in the upper lot and saw some little chickens.

As we started walking into what appeared to be the jungle from Tarzan, it started to mist on us, completing the rainforest-esque feeling.

Hike Difficulty

The hike was a slight uphill to get to the waterfall, but once you get to the waterfall, you turn around and the rest is downhill. The hike wasn’t overly difficult – there were toddlers doing it; however, once the rain picked up on our way back, the rocks got slippery and muddy.

On our way back from the hike, we took a picture at this tree stump throne.

After the hike, we started to drive to Hanauma Bay, but some people were hungry, so we pulled into the nearest fast food place which happened to be a Jack n the Box.

Best Laid Plans

We continued on to the Hanauma Bay, but unfortunately, the parking lot was already full (a consequence of covid regulations). Apparently, if you want to get a parking spot there, you have to arrive at 6:30am. The other option was to take an Uber which would drop you off at the top of the hill. Then you would have to walk down a (long-ish) way to get there. We consented that snorkeling on Maui is better anyways and decided to go back to the hotel.

Before heading back, we stopped at this rest stop located near the Bay, and I took a panoramic photo.

Target Run

Before we went back to the hotel, we stopped at the Target located in the mall near our hotel. It’s a 3-story Target – pretty cool if you ask me. We picked up some of the finest food provisions: hot dogs and chips for dinner. 😉

We also searched for sand toys, but we couldn’t find them anywhere! We think that the stores (ABC also didn’t have any) didn’t order any because either A. Masks and hand sanitizers took their place or B. They didn’t know if tourists were going to be coming back.

Back at the hotel

We went to the beach outside our hotel. I should use the term beach loosely as there was not much sand. It was more of a coral/rock cove. Luckily we bought sand shoes on Amazon before we left (affiliate link). Unfortunately, we forgot them in the car, so my mom went to grab them while we attempted to dig a hole in the ground.

When she returned, we went into the ocean which was the perfect temperature – not too hot and not too cold!

Dinner

We didn’t see any barbecues on the property in our walks about the place, so we decided to pan cook them instead in our cozy little kitchen. It was a good meal (and probably one of our cheapest – everything is so expensive).

Until Tomorrow,

A
