Dear Adventure Avenue,
As a preface, day 4 was a new kind of vacation day, but nothing I couldn’t handle. As some of you may know, I am a college student. I signed up for a month-long intensive summer Finance class with the impression that the dates given were the final dates and would not conflict with our Hawaii trip. Unfortunately, as it turned out, I was wrong and my final was on day 4 at 3:30 Hawaii time. I needed a good breakfast and strong wifi.
We started our day with the idea that we were going to go to Tropics. It opened at 7am and we were up early thanks to being on California time. We got to Tropics and found a line and were told that due to technical difficulties, they weren’t going to open for another hour.
Great…
I guess we will go into the village and try this place called CJs. We arrived there only to find out that they too had some problem and were not going to open for another hour.
We tried another place, but they didn’t have pancakes which is what my brother wanted for breakfast.
Cinnamon’s
Then after some Yelp searching we decided to head over to the neighboring hotel, the Ilikai to have breakfast at Cinnamon’s. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint! We got an inside table seated next to the window, overlooking the water. It was air conditioned inside and they took our order right away.
I got eggs and pancakes with bacon. My brother got bacon and pancakes. My mom got a half portion of the Hawaiian eggs benedict and my dad got an omelet. It was a sign that today was going to be a good day.
Lonohana Chocolate Tasting Bar
At the Lonohana chocolate tasting bar we were able to taste some of the chocolates made in Hawaii, but not the drinks. We decided to get a couple drinks to try. The chai one was better than the vegan Koko Colada, but not our favorites. The Island Chili salt 67% dark chocolate was uniquely good.
Storto’s Deli and Sandwich Shoppe
We got lunch at a hole in the wall sandwich shop called Storto’s Deli and Sandwich Shoppe. The sandwiches were super fresh and huge. They messed up our order a little and didn’t put the toppings on the side. I was fine with it though because I liked all the toppings that were on it 🙂
The rest of the day we rested, and I studied a little for my finance final exam.
Test Time
When the time came for me to take my test, my family went to the beach.
The wifi was working great for my test (and in general it does hold a good signal as we were able to stream Netflix with no lag through the amazon fire stick – affiliate link). Then as I was checking my answers the clock hit 5pm – there must have been a system reboot or something because my internet was gone. No signal. Nothing.
I started trying to pull up a hotspot on my phone, but couldn’t get that to work. I kept trying to reconnect to the internet. The moment it did – which was probably only a couple minutes but it felt much longer – I clicked submit and breathed out a HUGE sigh of relief: I was done. I ended up passing the class with an A thanks to all the studying I did prior to Hawaii.
Tropics
I was hungry after completing my test. I met back up with my family and we all went to Tropics for dinner again. I got the wings in the Hawaiian sauce which were delicious! My mom got the coconut shrimp and my dad a seafood platter that came with a creamy sauce he didn’t really care for.
A delicious conclusion to a slightly stressful day.
