Day 3 May 11, 2026 Part 2
Dear Adventure Avenues,
Ever since I was little, I have wanted to go to Missouri. I know that may seem a bit odd, but I am a HUGE Little House on the Prairie fan, and Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote the books in her home in Mansfield, Missouri, just an hour outside Springfield, Missouri. This trip is making little me soooo happy!
Rare Seeds Pioneer Town
After visiting the Laura Ingalls Wilder House in Mansfield, Missouri, my dad and I drove about 15 minutes North to Rare Seeds Pioneer Village and Farm. I was uncertain as to what would be open there as I don’t think we were there quite in peak season yet and we weren’t going during a festival.

I purchased some seeds at the Baker Creek Seed store, as well as some blue Amish popcorn.

We walked around the old looking buildings, taking in the animal noises and pioneer surroundings.

Lucky for us, the Bakery was open! The restaurant was still closed though. My dad and I split the most delicious cinnamon roll!

After enjoying our cinnamon roll, we started the drive back to Springfield. Along the way, we stopped at Costco to fill up the rental car with (cheaper) gas. We were shocked to see over 500 miles on the car after filling up because when we’d picked it up, it had just over 400 and was showing as a “full” tank. Definitely got a little bit bamboozled!
After getting gas, we back to our hotel in Springfield for a little break before heading out to get dinner.
Dinner at Flame in Downtown Springfield
One of my friends who grew up in Missouri, recommended we try Flame if we were in the mood for a nice steak dinner.

The bread at this restaurant was a little unusual, but quite good – especially the little muffin. They gave us a popover Yorkshire pudding-like roll and mini muffins. My dad and I split a Caesar salad. I had the filet medallions and upgraded to get the mushrooms as opposed to the potatoes it came with. My dad and I both agreed the mushrooms were delish! My dad got a filet with the Lyonnaise potatoes, which were nice and crispy.
After dinner, we took a stroll down the downtown area before heading back to our hotel to turn in for the night.
Until tomorrow,
A
