Day 1: June 22, 2019
Dear Adventure Avenue,
My journey to the South of France started around 12pm on June 21 as we drove to LAX for our 5:20 flight to Heathrow airport in London. My mom and I were excited that we got Flagship Lounge access thanks to Grand-mère’s status being reflected in our tickets.
I was extraordinarily happy that General Hospital was on the TV and enjoyed watching that as I ate my cheese plate, sweets, and some fish and chicken. I also enjoyed some hot chocolate with marshmallows and a cinnamon stick that I was able to make with the coffee/cappuccino machine. There was also a variety of teas to choose from so I enjoyed a camomile flowers tea and grabbed a bag (or two) for the road.
The flight to Heathrow was very good. I watched Jersey Boys on the plane which I enjoyed, as well as, A Dog’s Way Home which I didn’t like as much. I also slept for a while. It was nice being able to lay down. (Merci Grand-mère).
We arrived at the giant airport that is Heathrow and were then bused to our terminal where we went through security again. Once we made it through that, we went to the British Airways Lounge. There was food there but I wasn’t that hungry so all I had was some Sea Salt and Balsamic Vinegar Chips and a cup of English Breakfast tea. I also did some people watching there which I’ll go into at a different date.
The flight from Heathrow to Nice was very short. I got a tea service plate which was okay. Not my favorite, but I really enjoyed the scone.
When we got to Nice, we grabbed my mom’s checked bag and took a short cab ride to our hotel, Le Meridien. Grand-mère was waiting there for us. A big bus load of tourists had just arrived so we made the executive decision to wait to check in so we didn’t wait in the long line. We took our bags up to Grand-mères room with a gorgeous sea front view and then headed down the street to a little cafe on the corner of the next block.
All three of us ordered Croque Monsieur which were huge and delicious. After eating we walked around Nice a bit just to take in the city before heading back to our hotel and checking into our room.
Our room has a sunset view and a peekaboo view of the sea. I watched the French version of Barbie which was so weird but kept my attention.
Until tomorrow,
A from Nice
