The Best Garden Update Yet: August 2021

Dear Adventure Avenue,

I realized I never shared more of my garden update after my update back in January. Let’s just say, it’s going a LOT better than last year’s garden.

See that little watermelon!?

I got all my tomato plants that you can see here from a local Arboretum plant show back in April. I’m really happy with the yellow tomato variety called Snow White. The purple pots were filled with zucchini until I pulled them up last week and replaced them with yellow squash. Unfortunately, the snails seem to really enjoy the yellow squash, so I am not sure if they are going to last.

I started the watermelon plant from a seed kit that I bought at Target because I had a deal on Ibotta that made it free. (If you haven’t already – check out these money making apps). I’m pleasantly surprised that it has grown this much AND that there is a watermelon growing on the vine! YAY!

One yellow squash plant survived the snails.

One of the tomato plants in this picture is called Amy’s Apricots which are delightful little orange cherry tomatoes.

There are also some walla walla onions in the long planter. I know they should’ve been planted in the ground but…

The soil here isn’t the greatest and it takes time to build it up – hence the pots for the majority of the garden. I successfully did build up the soil in the lavender patch and what was the green bean patch. I got about a cup and a half of green beans from my patch. I’m guessing I planted about half a packet of seeds because my first round that I planted elsewhere was eaten by snails.

The big plant is a Spanish Lavender. The other smaller ones are English Lavender.

The 2021 garden is definitely a success thus far! Lots of zucchini and tomatoes which is awesome!

Until next time!

Sincerely,

A
