The Good to Terrible Airport Adventure to Paris France 2023

Friday March 24, 2023

Dear Adventure Avenue,

The day started off well: we got to the airport with plenty of time to spare and headed to the Flagship lounge (the good one 😉 ).

Then our flight got delayed.

Then it got delayed again.

We finally get on and knowingly have a 35 minute layover to get to our next gate. We can do it. It’s close.

The plane is very slow and it makes up no time at all, in fact, we are now arriving even later with only 15 minutes until our plane departs.

Our plane lands and I RUN to our gate. I explain how my grand-mère was supposed to get a wheelchair at the gate but there was none to be found so she would be here as well, it would just take her a bit longer.

They scan my ticket and say, “Oh, you are no longer on this flight.”

By then grand-mère has arrived and we’re both saying, “This is not right. We didn’t change it. We couldn’t make our plane go any faster.”

Plus we still had our business class tickets that said we should be on this flight.

Well, turns out they gave our tickets up because the system automatically rebooked us while we were in the air.

Our choices were to wait 4 more hours and take a business class flight to London Heathrow and then to Paris or take premium economy seats. We went with the latter because we had train tickets that we’d miss if we took the later flight, not to mention we would’ve had to go through TSA again.

Meanwhile, while all this is happening, people from the late Cancun flight are coming up and having no problem getting on the plane. Their seats are still there and hadn’t been given up.

Then, this is where it gets even more frustrating. We’re sitting on this flight in our premium economy seats and the plane gets delayed due to maintenance issues. So now we’re pretty upset that these maintenance issues were not dealt with earlier so the flight would’ve been delayed earlier and we would’ve still had good seats (i.e. ones that we paid for because they turn into beds).

They finally get the maintenance issue fixed and we take off about 30 minutes late.

The flight attendants on board our flight were much more understanding than the people at the gate. They brought us the meals we had pre-ordered as well as the pillow and bedding that comes with business class.

Despite the unfortunate circumstances, we landed safely in Paris.

Until tomorrow,

A
