Dear Adventure Avenue,
On a recent trip to Louisville, Kentucky, I finally got to check out the Churchill Downs! It was a couple weeks after the Kentucky Derby, but it was so fun to go watch the horses race.
I went during a Twilight Thursday event. Tickets were $19 and the gates opened at 4pm. I didn’t end up getting there til after 5 and the first race had already happened. I would recommend getting there on the earlier side in order to get better parking. I had to walk quite a ways.
Next time I’m in Louisville, I would love to check out the museum associated with the Churchill Downs, but for this trip, this sign would have to do!
I grabbed dinner inside, closer to my seat. I was not a huge fan of this bratwurst and would not get it again. They also had chicken tenders at one of the kiosks which I’d almost gotten – next time!
I was sitting in section 318B, row 1, seat 6. There was no one else in my little box, and I will say I could not find seat numbers on any of the folding chairs, so it didn’t seem like it mattered which chair you sat in, but I could be wrong about that.
While I am not usually someone who bets because I despise losing money, I decided a $2 bet was worth it to get the whole experience at Churchill Downs. I picked the horse solely off of its name Soleil Vivant (cuz it was French), and it ended up coming in first place!! It’s odds were pretty terrible, so I ended up winning $10! I used those winnings to bet on the rest of the races. I won again in Race 7!
I had such a great time here! The weather was perfect and the seats were in the shade.
I would definitely go back to the Churchill Downs and see the horse races again!
