Know Before You Go: Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind

If you don’t want this ride spoiled for you, move along my friends! Check out Day 1 of my Disney World Adventure!

Dear Adventure Avenue,

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Guide

Here are some fast facts to know before you go:

  1. Remove all hats and glasses because they will fly off.
  2. It starts off just like space mountain, but then goes backwards and the cars turn, not in complete circles, but they do turn.
  3. If you get motion sick on Space Mountain, you will definitely get motion sick on this ride.
  4. Book the ride during the Extra Magic Hours at 6pm (or whatever time it is when you go) so you don’t have to pay for it!

The Ride Experience

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is a new ride in Epcot where you must join the virtual queue or pay in order to ride it. We were able to ride Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind because of Epcot’s nighttime extra magic hours. They released extra boarding groups at 6pm that only guests staying at certain Disney properties could access.

Before 6pm, my mom and I were both in the Disney app, ready to book the virtual queue. As soon as it was 6pm, we refreshed our apps until we were successful. I was the first one able to book a selection and we had boarding group 153. Our anticipated return time was a little before 9:30pm.

We watched the fireworks and then ran walked briskly over to the ride as soon as the fireworks show was over. Everyone must have been at the fireworks show because we walked continuously until we got to the first part of the line holding area. This area tells you the story of what’s going on. You stand in the center of the room and then at some point the walls are pulled away and you’re in a bigger room.

You aren’t allowed to take photos inside, so enjoy the back side of the shuttle.

Then you’re directed into another line. People were very rude here and pushed and shoved to get in front. An older man even stood purposefully in front of kids in the room. We were all going to get on the ride, and at this point, the line itself was only a 15-minute wait to get loaded.

Anyways, we boarded the ride, and it starts off very similar to Space Mountain. There is the slight uphill with the lights and music and then you get inside and it’s the story playing out in space on the screen in front of you. I at this point still have my glasses on. Then I realize that the ride is about to shoot backwards, so I quickly take my glasses off and hold them in my hand.

From there the ride is very similar to Space Mountain, except that the cars rotate to view different story scenes. I got a little woozy during the turning but recovered quickly after the ride. My brother experienced a bit more wooziness and had to drink some water afterwards but was otherwise fine. We were glad my mom didn’t go on it though because Space Mountain can really bother her, so a word of warning if you get motion sickness easily: If you can’t handle Space Mountain, you won’t be able to handle Cosmic Rewind.

Hope you have fun riding (or not riding) the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind!

Sincerely,

A
