Oahu Hawaiian Vacation 2021 Day 3 – A Daily Log

July 1, 2021

Dear Adventure Avenue,

We ate a quick breakfast in our hotel room because yesterday we got tickets to go out to the Pearl Harbor USS Arizona Memorial. The tickets for Pearl Harbor were almost as hard to get as a Boarding Pass to Rise of the Resistance at Disney. That, combined with the lines everywhere at our hotel, made Oahu feel like Disney.

Pearl Harbor

Once we arrived at Pearl Harbor, we went straight to the boarding area. Unfortunately due to Covid, we weren’t able to watch the movie inside the theatre. We later found that they were showing it on a television outside in a nice shady area.

After a short boat ride over to the memorial, we were able to pay our respects to those who died aboard during the attack on Pearl Harbor.

We walked around the grounds, taking in the beauty of the ocean and grounds while learning and paying our respects to those that served.

It is an experience I recommend to everyone. I was overcome with emotion at the sacrifice of so many brave men.

Back at the Hotel

We ordered a couple pizzas at the Pizza Hut in the Village shopping center. While we waited for the pizza to be cooked, we went to the ABC store for water and some delicious Maui root beer. It was made with honey and no artificial flavors or sweeteners. I loved how you could really taste the honey and the vanilla. It’s called The Island Root Beer by the Maui Brewing Company.

As we ate our pizza in the room, we heard a very loud alarm going off – Not a fire alarm, but an air raid siren. After some quick googling, we soon realized that it was the monthly drill in case of emergency. After that we rested and relaxed in the room and on the balcony for a spell.

Wiki Wiki Market

We waited in line outside for shave ice at the Wiki Wiki market for more than 30 minutes. Once we were inside, we saw that the line was most likely due to inefficient work procedures. Needless to say it took a lot longer than it should have.

They were Giant shave ices though – for $9 each. I split mango, coconut, and pineapple with my dad. My brother and mom split a coconut and blue raspberry. It was nice to have a cool refreshing treat in the hot, humid weather that is Hawaii.

Rocky Teppanyaki

This was one of our best meals in Hawaii – the food was cooked perfectly and in front of us by a funny chef. We sat next to a friendly Texan couple – well the woman was very bubbly and gave off a sort of Phoebe from Friends impression.

I really enjoyed the soup!

As a family we got steak, shrimp, chicken, and garlic fried rice. Everything was cooked perfectly. We were too full to enjoy our garlic fried rice, so we took it back to the room to enjoy at a later date. Dessert was ice cream. My family doesn’t like that Benihanna doesn’t have a wide variety of ice cream flavors, but Rocky did not disappoint. There was mint chip, cookies n cream, chocolate, vanilla, and I think a sherbert. We got the mint chip.

It was such a satisfying meal that I think we rolled back to the hotel in a food coma.

Until Tomorrow,

A
