What to do in Washington D.C. – 2021 Historical Adventure Day 1

This post is part of a 6-day series of the things that my family of four did while we were in Washington D.C. in November of 2021. I will give an account of the things we liked and things that we didn’t like as much. In this way, you can plan the best trip to Washington D.C. (and surrounding areas)!

November 20, 2021

Dear Adventure Avenue,

Today was a travel day. Our flight was later in the day than they usually are, so the morning was spent relaxing and doing any last-minute packing before we left for the airport. My mom had recently gotten access to the American Airlines Admirals Club which meant we had lounge access!

This ended up being great as by the time we had left our car at the Parking Spot, driven to the airport, and gone through security, it was time for lunch.

I enjoyed carrots, humus, and pita bread for my meal, as well as an English breakfast latte and an orange.

The flight was uneventful, and we landed earlier than expected in Washington D.C, but still late at night.

We were able to get an Uber relatively quickly which was good as it was very cold for us Californians.

Capital Hilton Hotel

The hotel was nice, albeit a little dated in the rooms. (We think they’re remodeling). Check out my room and hotel tour to see more about the hotel.

There was a slight space problem with our first room (a Junior Suite) in that the L shape of the room made it small. The beds were supposedly queens, but they looked like doubles. My mom went downstairs to see if there were any other options.

These are both supposed to be Queens. The one on the right is the Deluxe room with an actual Queen bed and the left is the “Queen” or actually a double.

My dad, brother, and I followed her down soon after as we’d been yelping the closest (open) places to eat. We saw that there was a Five Guys open around the corner and down a ways, but it closed in 30 minutes. The kind hotel front desk man, who overheard our plight, said that we could go have our dinner, come back, and the room would still be there. So that’s exactly what we did.

The Five Guys was very good after a long day of traveling. The people who worked there were very nice too.

We got our new room upon returning (a 2 Queen bed Deluxe suite with a sofa couch), and it was much more spacious!

We started to wind down and get ready for bed. It was nearing midnight DC time, but some people were still on California time. (Not me – I was exhausted šŸ™‚ ) We were ready to start our Washington D.C. historical travel adventure!

Until tomorrow,

A
