This post is part of a 6-day series of the things that my family of four did while we were in Washington D.C. in November of 2021. I will give an account of the things we liked and things that we didn’t like as much. In this way, you can plan the best trip to Washington D.C. (and surrounding areas)!
November 24, 2021
Dear Adventure Avenue,
Breakfast was Corner Bakery and Starbucks again. The Capital Hilton is walking distance from these two establishments.
Smithsonian Natural History Museum
The Natural History Museum is the best Smithsonian! At least of the ones we went to this week. We did have to wait in a Disneyland size line to get into the museum. (It was about 40 minutes). But once we got in there were lots of different and interesting things to see.
The human evolution exhibit was also interesting, but I didn’t seem to snap any pictures of the gorillas – just a picture about DNA percentages
I particularly enjoyed the gem exhibit.
The mummy exhibit was interesting. I was excited to see it, but it’s a little weird looking at a mummified body.
Finally, we looked at the dinosaur exhibit before heading outside and off to find lunch.
Lunch at Potbelly Sandwiches
This was the second time at this establishment. I had a delicious warm Turkey sandwich. Everyone seemed to really enjoy this eatery.
Walk to the WWI memorial
World War I Memorial
Jefferson’s Memorial
Then we decided we would walk to Jefferson’s Memorial as our final thing for the day. The thing about Jefferson’s Memorial is it’s deceptively far from the other monuments because there isn’t a straight shot to it. With that said, once you get there, it is beautiful!
Then we walked back to the hotel. Certain members of the family wanted to take an Uber but we pressed on. It was the perfect day to walk, and I enjoyed the fresh air.
White House
On our way back to the hotel we stopped in front of the White House. We could go all the way up to the gate because there were no protesters as the last time we had been, there had been a second barricade erected in front of the White House.
Dinner
We were going to have a quiet night in but as my mom was looking at Yelp, she saw a restaurant she had visited in Florida: Joe’s Stone Crab’s.
This was a fancy and delicious meal. I enjoyed the stone crab. The lyonnaise potatoes were delicious! For dessert we tried their peppermint ice cream and it was so good. There was a giant portion of it too.
We headed back to the hotel and began packing as we would have to be up at 4:30am.
Sincerely,
A
